Hi, I’m Jacqui Mann –founder and owner at HR 4 Nurseries.
I’ve been working in HR for over 25 years, launching my own business in 2003.
In that time, we’ve worked with a lot of private sector companies from different industries, but the industry we’ve worked with more than any other is nurseries.

At the beginning, we just sort of fell into the sector.
My first grandchild had just been born, and we went on a few tours around different childcare settings, trying to find the right place for him.
And it just struck me, right there and then: nurseries are proper businesses, and they need to be treated like it.
My previous experience of childcare (with my own children) was very different – childcare was a lot more casual, a lot less legislated.
That’s no longer the case –childcare is one of the most legislated industries in the country, and that means that your HR needs to be up to scratch, if you want a business that lasts.
What I saw during those tours was that lots of nurseries were still being run the old way – casually – and I knew that it was an accident waiting to happen.
So I decided to do something about it, and launched HR 4 Nurseries.
We work with nursery owners to build a strong foundation on rock solid employment law.
And then – for the nurseries that want to go to the next level – we help them create a workplace that empowers staff to be the best they can be, makes the company a great place to work, and gives the nursery owner confidence and headspace to step away from the day-to-day.
